HDL completed more than 70 tasks for Merrill Field Airport related to airport capital improvements projects associated with the design and construction of $27 million in apron, taxiway, runway, and security improvements. These projects have included over 1-million square feet of apron rehabilitation, 2,700 feet of taxiway rehabilitation, 3,500 LF of new storm drain piping, 1,340 LF of landfill gas system reconstruction, reconstruction of crosswind Runway 16/34, access road reconstruction, water main replacement, and storm water management and camera, fencing, and gate security improvements. Apron improvements constructed above the closed Merrill Field landfill involved dynamic compaction to consolidate underlying landfill refuse.
Project tasks included coordination with FAA, Merrill Field, EPA, MOA Solid Waste Service Division and leaseholders. Design services included preparing plans, specifications and cost estimate; and providing assistance during bidding. Construction phase services included resident engineering, inspection, geotechnical investigations and monitoring, quality assurance testing, project documentation and FAA closeout.
